Hans Christian Andersen Exhibition

Hans Christian Andersen

Exhibition design for the Hans Christian Andersen exhibition at the British Library celebrating the bicentenary of Andersen’s birth.

This major exhibition at the British Library told the story of Andersen’s life and his fairy tales. We worked with a theatre company Theatre Rites, visual artist Sophia Clist, sound artist Craig Vear and graphic designer Rick Nicholls to create a narrative experience that reached a wide audience from academics to families.

The exhibition used a combination of digital and analogue interactives, sound, video and specially commissioned sculptures that complemented and drew out the stories behind the exhibits.

The space was dominated by a giant foam swan that exploded into a flurry of ‘feathers’ at the back of the exhibition in order to create a magical world that immersed the visitor in the fairy tales.
