Audile
Exploration Programme, London and Poitiers

Audile: one whose mental imagery is auditory rather than visual.

We have developed a series of workshops under the title Audile. Much of modern architecture is exclusively aimed at our sense of sight, arguably to the exclusion of our other senses. We are interested in exploring what kinds of environments are created when they are inspired by the auditive.

In collaboration with sound artist, Craig Vear we ran workshops at the Domaine de Boisbuchet Summer School in 2009 and 2010, as well as a project as part of the 2009 London Design Week. We worked with young professionals to explore and then produce structures with the auditory as their inspiration.

An audile installation reinterpreting the summer school site as an audio experience. The installation took the form of a walk through a structure created with fabric on a wooden frame with an integrated soundscape.

We are interested in continuing our exploration into the architecture inspired by senses other than sight.
